2BLU and The Lucky Stiffs have been providing fans with their premium blend of blues, rock, funk, and gospel for years. Whether they are putting their original twists on Delta Blues when performing in an unplugged acoustic duo or trio, or bringing the funk in their electrified four or five-piece configuration, 2BLU and The Lucky Stiffs create their own unique brew to rock your bones and sooth your soul.
The genesis of the band was the acoustic duo of Bruce Andrews and George Dudley, who adopted the name “2BLU”. With the addition of drums, bass, and percussion, the boys become “2BLU and The Lucky Stiffs”.
Why the name? The guys are “Lucky” to share a mix of music, faith, and life experience with anyone who will listen. On top of that, they're a bunch of “Stiffs,” old dudes who can’t quit playing and wouldn't dream of quitting in the first place.
2BLU's lyrical approach frequently reflects the band's Christian faith, usually in a non-traditional format, mixing secular and Faith themes in their tunes; exactly as life mixes the everyday grind with the divine. This combination represents the roots of the Blues.
Diverse instrumentation includes custom hand-built lap steel guitars, bass guitars and hand percussion by bassist Jack Dudley of Don’t Fret Instruments.
Bruce Andrews - Harmonica and Lead Vocals
Bruce has been playing harmonica and singing with bands for more than thirty years, and has performed in the International Blues Challenge as a semifinalist five times, and once as a finalist. He is also a published visual artist; painting Blues and Jazz greats as subject matter. In addition to his work with 2BLU, Bruce plays and writes for the award-winning band The Alabama Blues Machine and has also performed as lead vocalist for The Black Jacket Symphony in their production of the Rolling Stones' "Let It Bleed". You will usually hear Bruce playing Hohner Special 20 harmonicas through a custom amp built by James Dudley.
George
has been playing guitar for more than three decades, bringing a unique
approach to the instrument. For example, his Blues playing is true
to the genre, but totally fresh. George has played with numerous
club bands throughout the New England area, and his session work
can be found on several fine local and regional releases. George
plays both a custom Wayne Brown Tele or "The Zebra", a
hand crafted guitar by Brake Guitars and Larravee acoustic guitars.
George also plays several styles of lap steel guitars including
Weisenborn and custom-made Sipsey River Steel guitars by Jack Dudley's
Don’t
Fret Instruments. Various pedals and Crate and Mesa Boogie
amplifiers complete the chain.
Jack is George’s brother and he has been playing bass for more than three decades. Jack’s style and tone is extremely unique, and must be heard to be appreciated; percussive by nature, it is smooth at the same time. Jack plays a combination of four, five and six-string custom-built fretless bass guitars, as well as an occasional departure to an upright electric bass. Jack personally designs and builds all of his bass guitars.
Dave
is an accomplished hand percussionist with more than four decades
of experience playing Blues, Latin, Funk and anything soulful. Dave
is a Southern, groovin' white guy with a dash of Africano influence
(with the papers to prove it). Inspired by his brother and enlightened
by many great hand percussionist, Dave knows how to add texture
to any type of music and knows when to sit one out. Dave plays Meinl,
LP and Remo hand drums, custom hand-crafted cajons, washboards and
the Sipsey Slapper by Don’t Fret Instruments, and assorted animal
parts through Behringer, Shure and Sennheiser electronics.
While James is the youngest of the Dudleys and the newest member of the band, age certainly does not limit James’ ability. James has a natural feel, and his intuitive sense to play "just enough" gives him the unique ability to play "with' a percussionist by leaving a little room. Look for James’ innovative Vintage Suitcase drum kit, a real experiment in “minimalism”. |
